Course Description

We will be studying the fundamentals of Copperplate Calligraphy, starting with posture and how to hold a pen. The following topics will be covered: Nibs, writing paper, shading, spacing, making lines, corrections, using a light tablet, flourishing, pencil layouts, computer layouts, erasing shields, and workable fix. This is a hands on class and one must take time to practice between classes. Since the class is small, individual help will be available. Class is limited to 7.

About the Instructor

My teaching name is Dr. Bob. I have been teaching and studying calligraphy for over 40 years. I am a member of Pen Dragons of Kalamazoo; IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penman, Engrosses and Teachers of Handwriting), and I took the yearlong broad edge pen class taught by Reggie EzelI. I have taught Copperplate at the Ollie program at WMU. I began my career as a schoolteacher and teaching is my avocation.
