Penned Poems

A Traveling Exhibit

A Pen Dragons and Friends of Poetry Collaborative

"Poems That Ate Our Ears" is the Friends of Poetry annual publication of local winning poets. Most of these poets are students from kindergarten through grade 12. Pen Dragons, a local calligraphy guild, has selected a sampling of their favorite poems and created a group of 15 framed works which will be available to exhibiting in schools, libraries and other settings.

This group of framed works reveals the unique interdisciplinary potential of poetry and art. The calligrapher requires words to create. The poet creates images which stir the artist within.

Friends of Poetry is a charitable and educational organization that supports the awareness of poetry and encourages the reading and writing of poetry as a part of everyday living. FOP has been active for twenty-six years in the Kalamazoo area. Two major FOP initiatives are: an annual poetry contest, "Poems That Ate Our Ears" and our mural project which currently features four winning poems on buildings in Kalamazoo's downtown area.
